The plot is on the Riverside of Hechuan city, it is around 50km to the north from Chongqing. The New urban planning tries to expand the city to the north along the river. Housing blocks, skyscrapers and villas create the new panorama of the city. With this, the developers are transforming natural slopes of the riverside to pedestrian green path.
The Client wants to conduct an experiment, kind of prototype, to reproduce along the river with the intention of creating new social activities through VIP bars, restaurants, galleries … He proposed a place for the new prototype that we changed. The waterfront path is a narrow pedestrian line so relocating these prototypes will cut the continuity for pedestrians or bikers. Why not using the limit and have different experience close to the water and getting isolated from the road.
3 main ideas: hung, light and prefabricate construction and flexibility. The prototype follows the idea of an iceberg, showing a bit of itself but hiding everything under the water. Small volumes appear from the waterfront providing with the access to observe dusk close to the water.
These “heads” are covered by polycarbonate that will shine at night to catch the attention of people and play the role of the lighthouse in the sea leading boats to the coast.
