The plot is located in a new urban development near Madrid main airport. Few meters separated from the daily activity of landing and taking off of aircrafts. This unusual urban context leads the design approach.
The noise as a design tool pushed us to create a buffer, a double skin protects the indoor spaces from the noise pollution.... what if we use this buffer as an extension of the house and a technical solution.
The apartments follow the strict standards of the urban plan but focus in the limits, spaces in between, the street and the core of the building, the core and the entrance, the house and the balcony, the balcony and the outside. Usually spaces where nothing is happening, something residual become the core of the project.
A plastic veil covers the whole building. Due the minimum m2 possible in balconies we push the veil and create a void between the outside and the inside. The balconies don’t follow the same lines creating a space in between where all the neighbors can see and interact between each other. It’s an intimated space between the apartment and the street.
Similar situations appear all along the building. Between the core and the entrance. The is a physical separation between the core and the apartments. Bridges and voids appeared in different directions from the core, letting the natural sunlight come in from a big sky window and providing with a space where to meet and have small talks.
The idea is to create a transition of different atmospheres with different materials, textures and situations, enhancing the social interactions.
