2 notions came to us from the starting point of design, heritage and the essence of the port opening a lot of questions about heritage, iconic symbolism, the essence of a place, scale and integration, materiality etc.

 

1. A REPLICANT.

We wanted to create an image enhance the feature of the castle, something that complement the whole scene like it was there before. We wanted to design following the main principles, language and essence of the castle creating another new form that coexist in all the levels with the old constructions.

Long massed of volumes create a thick wall with program protecting a central space in the middle. Seems like an introverted building, protected from the outside. A sequence of spaces and volumes in different scales are articulated in a way that enrich the outdoor image and creates a more interesting indoor space. It is happening not only in the horizontal dimension but also you can see in the vertical. The repetition in different directions of the roof typology are going to be apply to the new museum, maintaining that visual connection between these 2 actors and providing a construction solution due the weather conditions more regional.

 

1. ECOSISTEM. THE ESSENCE OF THE PORT

We wanted to capture the essence of the port inside the building. A port is a dynamic space that its activity grows depends on the demand. It is an organism or in a better sense a whole ecosystem. Few strict rules create a frame work of movement, rules based on repetition, mobility, simplicity, addition, growth, horizontality, density ... give you an image with very strong features very easy to recognize. We wanted to use notions as a design tools providing with a new frame for human interactions and new experience for the users.
