FIRING CLAY

ART/COMERCIAL COMPLEX

A small ancient town famous for making pottery using traditional technics. Located in the upper part of a hill with a panoramic view to the town and surroundngs. The local goverment is looking for a proposal to provide a new image of the town, a new touristic spot to show the history and tradition technics. The complex is divided by local urban planning in 5 areas with different functions: performance/museum/restaurant/art galleries and hotel. The buildings are set as separated objects trying to make a link between themselves and surrondings enriching the public space The first building is setting up a mystical space, a place for a specific ritual : the fire circle. During the process of cooking clay there is an instant when the cover of the owen is elevated and all pots together appear incandensced for a moment. A circular square is located underground for such a performance. People are going down through a ramp and sitting around the fire place with  an opening space on the roof. Raw materials, lack of decoration - only natural elements inside this primitive space: sun, rain , fire and water. The upper volume appears for the user as a first reference of the complex. A curve barewall goes over the perception as a  big hug for the visitors. It’s elevated to let people go through and see the landscape in the back. The other facade offers an open view to the mountains for all VIP rooms. Building number 3 is a comercial/art studio and hotel in the same buildings. The idea is to create an inner square where human scale feeling is the goal. A plaza where all retails shops are faced to each other. The ground floor is transparent while 2/3 floor is made by wooden sticks to keep some privacy in the corridor of the hotel and studios. As for the view, the hotel is facing the park and surrondings and to break the sterotype of hotel image and gain privacy the walls between rooms came out. A big curvy building is added to the building for big art galleries and studios.
