Back to courtyard
We tried to re-interpretate the tradition and create something new. Back to the courtyard as a typology from old times schools where all the classes were facing the patio where all students interact together. We took this idea to the limit creating a macro patio due the scale. The classes face the “new forest” avoiding the noise pollution from the roads next to. All the circulation left outside and is where the project take shape and provide with more interesting spaces for interaction. As a metaphor of Chongqing a new cross verticality is created. Balconies are interconnected with ramps and stairs in any direction make the building walkable always in a different way. Dynamic facade in contrast with the calm and static one inside. Education is changing and more and more school are looking for new ways for teaching and interacting with students. Undefined spaces is what we tried to enhance in here, providing a platform for learning, interacting and enjoying.
Structure
Modular system clt cross laminated timber. We the aim to reduce costs and ejection time we decided to build it in clt. A modular prefabricate system made of timber with high level of resistance, earthquake performance and the finishing. The idea is to get back of traditional Chinese construction with new technics and approach.
Inner facade
Sunlight control different levels of density formed by wooden sticks will provide maximum lighting control in the classrooms this moveable system will give a more dynamic image with different gradients of transparency in constant change along the day using one material.
Balconies
Like in Chongqing city-mountain city 来自“山城”的寓意 using the metaphor of Chongqing as a mountain city we create a new playground based on circulation. All classrooms are facing the inner patio while the balconies and communications face the city and the mountains in the background. “like climbing the mountain” we create a labyrinth, a 3d outdoor space where kids can play, walk or stand.
