UNTAP
OUTDOOR POOLS IN A WATER STORAGE
From the very beginning we got so amused by the surroundings, the lost nature and the whole mysticism coming along with the idea of buried ruins.
how we can approach this natural and historical landscape adding minimum elements as possible but enhancing the experience of the use. far from creating a new white space to hang some pieces of art with a coffee place, we wanted to magnify the structure itself and connect it directly with such a powerful environment.
Let’s literally “untap” it and make it visible ... the void in the ground, the capability of reserving water, the repetition of the structure elements and its rough texture and brutal surfaces. by only removing the concrete slab between beams we uncover what was hidden before and connect physically and visually with the surroundings. now everything blends and interacts with each other.
only one pavilion is on the top, like a modern temple referring to the historical heritage of the summer temples of the place pop up from the ground isolated in the middle of the ruins. we create this tension or dramatic situation looking for the contrast between what is under, above and the surroundings.
