ARCHETYPE
Shoe Box or Vineyard ... Two scenarios, two feelings.
3 (two musical spaces and lobby) isolate players in the same place with very clear division between them, no room for blurring the limits, mixing the experiences or creating new relations between themselves. We understand the current idea of concert hall as a dead building that comes back to life for few hours at night and not everyday. The aim is to reverse this situation, transposing the social activities of the streets in the old town inside the building. A flexible playground able to hold different activities. A perimeter of social activities including bars, expositions, cultural offer, etc all under the same roof.
No main elevation, accessible from all the corners of the top of Taurus Hill, offering itself as a part of the city always changing, always interacting creating a social amalgam.
2 volumes with the same logic create this unstable game where the glance can not focus either one or another structure and is in this waving perception where the observer find a center always changing (The lobby).
LANDSCAPE
No facade, no scale. The building appears as part of the landscape of Taurus Hill. 2 extra terraces are built on the top. There is no main entrance or elements that identify the scale or the social character of the building. The perception and the use differs and change all time depends from where you climb or dig, go around or cross through. The image or the materiality of the building is in constant change. How to build ¨people ´s House¨of Vilnius?, How to add the concept of democracy in architecture? Reflection and transparency and time. A transparent skin surround the two terraces, giving a constant connection between inside and outside. A second skin made by reflective material link the city, the surroundings and the building. A double effect that provide images in constant change, the flow of people passing by, relaxing or doing activities while from inside gives you an image of the surroundings and the city.
COST
Why this type of buildings are expensive or require big amount of resources? ... house of people or icon architecture. How to build a place for music? Build the void. In this proposal We look for reducing any single detail or extra ornamentation. Instead of two voids cover by another volume, the walls and the ceiling of the musical boxes become the core of the whole building.
2 mushrooms, same logic but different scale solve the complexity of the project in one gesture.
all the boxes provide with a balcony where to sit on the edge and touch the water.
