BACK TO EARTH
PRE SCHOOL
Digging it out. Back to earth like an arqueological excavation. The school is being there the whole time. The idea takes advantage of the terrain in a way that floor and walls belong to it. A costless system, a remind of a primitive architecture trying to use what is around to build a shelter. With the aim to reduce cost, material, transport and improve thermically the condition of the school without consumption we go underground 2 m. Enough height to encapsule the whole teaching activity, scaled for kids. To reduced extra push from terrain, walls are stepped in creating also a stand where kids can sit, play, read or simply eat their meals. Instead of creating a pavilion school type where there is no physical or visual connection between the inside and outdoors we flip the axle to the horizontal and fly it over 50cm being connected with the outside permanently without windows or any kind of opening, assuring a natural cross ventilation. A cross-section defined the whole system making it easy to export to another areas. Adaptability is the other quality of it. There is no a predeterminate shape, the school will be always different depends on the terrain and the existing tress and the possibility of growth. We reduced 50% the cost where the walls, floors and frameless openings are provided by the terrain itself and gives a 2 completely different feeling and possibilities of teaching or playing. A subworld dense, textured and heavy with a crack that connect with the outside.
